Compensation: $20 - $22 per hour plus a $3,200 annual bonus potential
Location - Columbia, MD (hybrid)
Maxim Healthcare Corporate Services is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Payroll Specialist to join our Payroll team. This role is responsible for supporting the timely and accurate processing of payroll for employees across the organization. The ideal candidate is a team player who enjoys working with numbers, has strong Excel and data-entry skills, communicates effectively, and thrives in a fast-paced environment with critical deadlines.

What You'll Do
As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. Responsibilities include:
- Process weekly payroll information, including bonuses and off-cycle payroll payments as needed
- Review payroll reports for accuracy and reconcile discrepancies prior to payroll deadlines
- Perform weekly overtime audits and payroll validations
- Prepare and process stop payment requests, manual checks, and associated system updates
- Assist with payroll adjustments, wage recoveries, and payroll corrections
- Enter and maintain payroll-related data with a high level of accuracy
- Respond to employee and branch inquiries regarding pay policies, payroll procedures, and paycheck-related questions
- Partner with branch offices and internal stakeholders to resolve payroll issues in a timely manner
- Maintain compliance with payroll regulations and stay informed of payroll system updates and wage and tax law changes
- Document payroll processes and maintain accurate records and notes
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
What a Typical Week Looks Like
- Review and validate payroll information submitted by branch offices
- Support payroll processing activities leading up to weekly payroll deadlines
- Process off-cycle checks on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
- Reconcile payroll data and assist with payroll adjustments and corrections
- Conduct overtime audits and identify discrepancies
- Resolve payroll issues, investigate errors, and communicate solutions to employees and branch teams
- Assist with manual payroll entries when timing or documentation issues arise
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team
Preferred
- 2-4 years of payroll processing experience, administrative support experience, or a combination of education and experience
- Experience working with payroll software, payroll reports, or HRIS systems
- Customer service, administrative, retail management, scheduling, or data-entry experience
- Familiarity with payroll, timekeeping, wage adjustments, or employee records
